This is a resinous wood which comes from South America. It is a revered ‘Holy wood’ that is used ceremonially for its energetic cleansing and purifying properties similarly to sage. Palo Santo has a calming and soothing action and the fresh slight menthol citrus fragrance is refreshing and uplifting. This form of smudge can be used to ritually purify person and place before beginning any sacred work. It is inspiring and clears depression and negativity helping to raise vibrations and bring clarity.
Use a candle to ignite your stick of Palo Santo. Hold at about a 45 degree angle pointing the tip down toward the flame. Allow it to burn for a moment or two until it begins to look like charcoal and then blow out. Move about your workspace, home, ritual space, altar or anywhere you would like to clear the energy washing the space with the smoke. When finished, place the stick in a fire proof bowl. Do not leave unattended when lit.
